Ticketmaster Expands Reach in Africa with Quicket Acquisition
Ticketmaster, known as the world’s leading ticket marketplace, has made a significant move by acquiring Quicket, a key player in Africa’s event and festival ticketing scene. This partnership aims to bolster the rapidly growing live events market across the continent.
Since its launch in South Africa in 2022, Ticketmaster has been serving various prominent festivals, sports, music, theatre, and venue clients. By teaming up with Quicket, which is recognized for its self-service platform and tools for event organizers, Ticketmaster plans to cater to events of all sizes, from intimate club shows to massive festivals and stadium events.
Quicket has been expanding its operations to countries like Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya, Zambia, and Botswana. This acquisition is expected to help more venues, artists, and promoters across Africa benefit from Quicket’s local expertise combined with Ticketmaster’s extensive global reach. Additionally, it will pave the way for advanced digital technologies, such as secure encrypted mobile tickets, to spread throughout the continent.
Mark Yovich, President of Ticketmaster, expressed his enthusiasm, stating that Africa is home to incredibly passionate fans and that Ticketmaster is dedicated to connecting them with the events they love in a simple and secure manner. He believes that partnering with Quicket will significantly enhance their mission to bring Africa’s vibrant live events into the global spotlight.
James Tagg, Managing Director of Quicket, also shared his thoughts, highlighting that the love for live entertainment is ingrained in African culture. He noted that for over a decade, Quicket has enabled event creators across the continent to provide exceptional experiences through their ticketing platform. This partnership with Ticketmaster marks a pivotal moment in connecting African artists with a worldwide audience while also improving experiences for local fans and promoters.
Under James Tagg’s leadership, Quicket will continue to operate as a distinct business unit based in Cape Town, maintaining its unique identity while taking advantage of the resources and expertise offered by Ticketmaster.
