Tight Security Measures in Place for 2024 Lok Sabha Election Results Counting
Security has been tightened as the 2024 Lok Sabha Election results counting is set to take place on June 4. The Election Commission, led by Gyanesh Kumar and S.S. Sandhu, assured a robust mechanism for the process.
Amid allegations of attempts to influence the process, the Election Commission criticized the attacks on DMs and Collectors by the Opposition. Concerns were raised regarding the spread of rumors to undermine the electoral process.
States like West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh are under tight security. The Congress accused Amit Shah of intimidation, raising suspicions of foul play.
Over 64.2 crore voters, including 31.2 crore women, participated in the elections, setting a world record. A significant voter turnout was noted in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in the Valley.
The EC deployed Central forces in various States to prevent post-poll violence. Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal received extended security for 15 days post-counting.
CEC emphasized on the rule-compliant process for counting, addressing Opposition demands and clarifying the ballot counting sequence. The EC is prepared for the upcoming Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir following the successful Lok Sabha elections.
