Nigeria’s women basketball team, D’Tigress, has made a remarkable achievement by reaching the quarter-finals of the women’s basketball event at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

They secured this milestone after a thrilling 79-70 win over Canada in their final group match, marking Nigeria’s first-ever appearance in the last eight of the Olympic basketball tournament.

Initially, the D’Tigress topped Group B with five classification points. However, their position changed when Australia defeated France 79-72 in another group game, dropping Nigeria to third place in the group rankings.

The D’Tigress are now set to face the defending champions, the United States, on August 7 at 9:30 PM. This match will be the second Olympic encounter between the two teams.

In their previous Olympic meeting at the Tokyo Games, D’Tigress faced a tough battle, losing by just nine points to the U.S. team. Unfortunately, they also lost during the 2024 Olympics qualifiers.

In other quarter-finals, Serbia will go up against Australia, Spain will clash with Belgium, and France will take on Germany.
