Tihar Jail Provides Update on Arvind Kejriwal’s Health Amidst Contradictory Claims
The Tihar Jail authorities have released a statement regarding the health status of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, amidst conflicting claims from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The AAP had raised concerns about Kejriwal’s health deteriorating while in judicial custody, citing significant weight loss and dangerously low sugar levels. However, the jail authorities have refuted these claims.
According to the Tihar Jail sources, Arvind Kejriwal has lost only 2 kg during his time in prison, contradicting the AAP’s assertion of an 8.5 kg weight loss. The jail officials stated that the Chief Minister’s health is being closely monitored by a medical board from AIIMS, with his vitals reported to be normal
In response to the AAP’s allegations, senior party leaders Atishi and Sanjay Singh have insisted that Kejriwal’s health is at risk due to multiple hypoglycemic episodes and rapid weight loss. Atishi highlighted instances where Kejriwal’s sugar levels reportedly plummeted to dangerous levels, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.
Furthermore, a report from the Tihar Jail administration revealed a detailed account of Kejriwal’s health parameters, indicating a gradual decrease in weight from 65 kg upon entry to 61.5 kg on July 14. The jail sources suggested that any weight loss observed was intentional, as Kejriwal was reportedly returning portions of his meals despite receiving home-cooked food.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva criticized the AAP’s narrative, accusing them of sensationalizing Kejriwal’s health to gain public sympathy ahead of court proceedings. Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in March and later by the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the Delhi excise policy scam.
