Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Sequel Set for Theatrical Release
Tim Burton‘s highly anticipated sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, is set to open in theaters on Friday, September 6, 2024. The film reunites original cast members Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder, and introduces new talent such as Jenna Ortega.
The sequel continues the story in Winter River, Connecticut, focusing on three generations of the Deetz family: Delia, played by Catherine O'Hara, her stepdaughter Lydia, portrayed by Ryder, and Lydia’s daughter, Astrid, who is depicted by Ortega. The plot thickens during the funeral of family patriarch Charles, a character played by Jeffrey Jones in the 1988 original.
During the cleaning of the Deetz family home, Astrid discovers a model of Winter River from years past, leading to the reawakening of the infamous ghost known as Beetlejuice. The film also features Justin Theroux as Lydia’s boyfriend, Willem Dafoe in the role of Wolf Jackson, and Monica Bellucci as Beetlejuice’s ex-wife, Delores.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will have a theatrical run before its release on premium video on demand (PVOD), which is typically priced between $24.99 and $29.99 for purchases. Renters can expect costs ranging from $19.99 to $24.99. The duration between theatrical release and PVOD debut largely depends on the film’s box office performance. According to early projections, the sequel is anticipated to gross between $100 million to $110 million during its opening weekend in North America, in addition to approximately $35 million internationally.
If the box office results align with expectations, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice may debut on PVOD around October 22, 2024. Following its PVOD release, the film is expected to stream on Max, Warner Bros. Discovery’s platform. Subscribers will be able to watch the film, which could arrive on the streaming service around November 19, 2024.
As a reminder, fans can currently watch the original 1988 film, Beetlejuice, available for streaming on Max. With its unique mix of humor and horror, the original film remains a beloved classic ahead of the sequel’s release.
