Tom Trbojevic Suffers Injury in Celebratory Match for 150 Games
In a night that was expected to celebrate Tom Trbojevic‘s milestone of 150 NRL games, unfortunate circumstances led to the superstar exit from the field due to a serious injury. The Sea Eagles secured a victory against the Bulldogs, winning 34-22 at Accor Stadium, yet the focus shifted to Trbojevic’s health following his departure with 16 minutes remaining in the game.
The injury occurred during a tackle involving Jacob Preston, where Trbojevic’s right arm was awkwardly stretched and pinned to the ground by teammate Luke Brooks. This incident raised alarms among fans and team officials concerning the severity of the injury as Trbojevic left the game visibly distressed.
Throughout his career, Trbojevic has faced various injuries, including hamstring issues, along with past shoulder and pec injuries. As a result, scans are scheduled for Saturday to assess his potential return for the finals.
Additionally, Trbojevic appeared to be limping in the second half after a tackle by Viliame Kikau, which had resulted in a try that was ultimately disallowed. Coach Anthony Seibold commented that Trbojevic’s pending x-ray is anticipated to reveal an AC joint injury, causing him to miss the next week’s game against the Sharks. However, Seibold expressed optimism about Trbojevic’s availability for the first week of finals.
Seibold added, «It’s an AC joint so he’ll definitely miss next week from what I understand… he will be right to go for week one of the finals.» While Trbojevic moved off the field with visible injuries including stitches above his eye and his arm immobilized, Seibold emphasized that this type of injury typically isn’t season-ending.
The Sea Eagles may face further challenges as speedy winger Jason Saab also exited due to a high-ankle sprain, which is expected to sideline him for 2-4 weeks. Coach Seibold noted Saab’s condition was related to a hip-drop tackle, and he seemed to struggle significantly after the incident.
The match itself was an unexpected turn for the Sea Eagles, who silenced a crowd of 35,502 and improved their chances of hosting a finals match. With the game starting with an early Reed Mahoney try for the Bulldogs, the momentum quickly shifted as the Sea Eagles executed a solid performance on the field, underlining their readiness to push for a finals campaign.
