Top-ranked Americans Gauff and Fritz to Lead U.S. Tennis Team at Paris Olympics
Top-ranked Americans Coco Gauff and Taylor Fritz have been selected to lead the U.S. tennis team at the upcoming Paris Olympics. The announcement, made by the U.S. Tennis Association, also included four other talented players joining the team as they gear up for the prestigious event taking place at Roland Garros.
Gauff, currently ranked No. 2 in the world, missed the Tokyo Games due to a COVID-19 infection. She will be competing alongside fellow American players Jessica Pegula, Danielle Collins, and Emma Navarro in the women’s singles category.
On the men’s side, Fritz will be accompanied by Tommy Paul, Chris Eubanks, and Marcos Giron in the singles events. This lineup of athletes showcases a mix of seasoned professionals and promising newcomers ready to represent the U.S. on the international stage.
Gauff, known for her exceptional talent and strong performances in recent Grand Slam tournaments like the Australian and French Opens, will be a key contender for medals at the Olympics. Her partnership with Pegula has also proven successful, with the duo securing multiple doubles titles together.
Pegula, who recently returned from a neck injury, is eager to make her mark at the Paris Games after a strong showing at the French Open. Collins, a two-time title winner this year, is set to conclude her tour career with a final appearance at the Olympics, adding an emotional element to her participation.
The U.S. Tennis Association expressed confidence in the team’s potential, highlighting the mix of experience and fresh talent. With the Olympic tennis competition set to begin on July 27, all eyes will be on the American contingent as they aim to make a mark at Roland Garros.
