As the eve of free agency approaches, the Toronto Maple Leafs have secured a new deal with forward Max Domi, while the Edmonton Oilers have made a surprising move by placing goaltender Jack Campbell on waivers.
Max Domi, a 29-year-old centre, has inked a four-year extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs, with an annual salary of $3.75 million. Domi’s consistent performance, tallying 47 points in 80 games during his debut season with the Maple Leafs, solidified his spot on the team’s roster.
On the other hand, the Edmonton Oilers have stunned fans by placing Jack Campbell, their goaltender, on waivers with the intention of buying out his contract. Campbell, who had only completed two of the five years on his contract signed in July 2022, endured a challenging season with lackluster stats, resulting in a demotion to the minor leagues.
In a parallel move, the Winnipeg Jets have also opted to buy out the contract of defenseman Nate Schmidt, adding to the roster adjustments being made by NHL teams ahead of the free agency period.
Unrestricted free agents in the NHL will have the opportunity to negotiate with new teams starting on July 1st, marking an exciting period for player movement and team restructuring across the league.
