Tottenham Hotspur Stadium Or Tottenham Hotspur Hosts Everton Amidst Selection Crisis

Tottenham Hotspur is set to face Everton in a Premier League match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, August 24, 2024. The match is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 PM IST.

Everton manager Sean Dyche has expressed concerns over an early-season selection crisis. He currently has only 14 recognized first-team players available for the match against Tottenham. Despite generating approximately £70 million from the recent sales of Amadou Onana, Lewis Dobbin, and Ben Godfrey, Dyche indicated that the club may need to consider offers for striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

“We are stretched, unfortunately,” Dyche stated in a press conference. “We are down to around 14 recognized first-team players at the minute – that is not perfect.” He explained that injuries have severely affected the squad, and Everton is unable to recruit new players due to financial constraints, despite having spent around £40 million on new signings.

Dyche emphasized the club’s limited financial options to rectify the situation. “We have not got much financially to correct the situation,” he added. “We have just got to work with the players and hope their fitness gets back to being fully fit and then staying fit.”

Should a substantial offer arise for Calvert-Lewin, it will prompt a significant decision from the club. Dyche remarked, “Any offer of a certain level would have to be looked at by the club.” He noted that while the club has reduced wage expenses through player trading, the financial issues are not fully resolved.

Last season, Everton narrowly avoided relegation despite facing points deductions twice for breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules. Additionally, the club’s prospective takeover agreement with 777 Partners expired in June, and a previous interest from the Friedkin Group to purchase a majority stake was abandoned last month.

In their Premier League opener, Everton suffered a 3-0 defeat at home against Brighton & Hove Albion.
