Stevenson University’s community is in mourning following the tragic news of the passing of lacrosse standout Callum Robinson, a former player for the institution. Robinson, along with his brother Jake Robinson and friend Jack Carter Rhoad, met a grim fate during a surfing expedition to Mexico‘s picturesque Baja California coast. Despite exhaustive search efforts, the trio was not located alive, raising suspicions of foul play in this devastating turn of events.
The director of athletics at Stevenson, Brett Adams, made the somber announcement to the Mustang Athletics Community, expressing deep sorrow at the loss of Callum Robinson, a 2015 graduate whose athletic prowess and character left a lasting mark on the university. The authorities in Mexico have undertaken arrests in connection with the case as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the trio’s disappearance and subsequent demise.
In a heartfelt statement, Stevenson University extended its condolences to the grieving parents of the Robinson brothers, Martin and Debra, who now bear the unbearable weight of losing both their sons, as well as the family of their friend Jack Carter Rhoad. Callum Robinson’s journey to Stevenson was one of talent, dedication, and camaraderie, originating from his roots in Perth, Western Australia, where he graduated from Sacred Heart College in 2008 before embarking on his collegiate lacrosse career.
The lacrosse coach at Stevenson, Paul Cantabene, recollects the arrival of the gifted Robinson, painting a picture of a formidable force on the lacrosse field and a cherished companion off it. Ellen Roskes, the dean of Stevenson’s Fine School of the Sciences, echoes the sentiment, portraying Callum as a bright, athletic, and compassionate individual whose presence will be sorely missed within the university community.
Tonight, as the Men’s Lacrosse MAC Commonwealth Conference title game unfolds with Stevenson facing off against Eastern University at Mustang Stadium in Owings Mills, plans are underway to pay homage and celebrate the life of Callum Robinson with a moment of silence before the game kicks off, honoring his legacy and the indelible impact he made during his time at Stevenson.
