Tragedy Strikes Picnickers in Lonavala: Family Swept Away in Waterfall Mishap
A tragic incident unfolded in Lonavala near Pune as a family picnic turned fatal when a group of individuals, including children, were swept away in a waterfall near the popular Bhushi Dam. The newlywed couple among the picnickers found themselves caught in a sudden rush of water after heavy rainfall in the area.
Farooq Inamdar, a former corporator from Hadapsar, shared that the extended family, consisting of Ansaris, Khans, and Sayyads from Sayyad Nagar, embarked on the ill-fated picnic early on Sunday. Tragedy struck as the group of 19 family members faced the unexpected turn of events during their outing.
As the rescue efforts unfolded, the bodies of three victims were identified—Ameena Salman, Umera Salman, and Shahista Ansari. Mariya Akil Sayyad’s body was recovered on Monday morning, while Adnan Sabhahat Ansari remained missing.
The harrowing ordeal captured in a circulating video depicted the desperation of those caught in the swiftly rising waters, pleading for help as onlookers urged them to hold on amidst the chaos. The tragic loss of lives has deeply impacted the community and those connected to the affected families.
