Tragedy Strikes as School Building Collapses in Plateau State, Nigeria
On a tragic Friday in Jos, Plateau State, the Saint Academy School faced a devastating disaster as its two-story building collapsed during school hours, trapping over 150 students under the rubble.
The Plateau State Police along with emergency services swiftly responded to the scene of the collapse, where a massive rescue operation was conducted to save the trapped students.
Authorities confirmed that at least 22 lives were lost in the building collapse, with many more injured individuals being treated at various hospitals across Jos.
Saint Academy School, located in the Busa Buji area of Jos North Local Government, was bustling with activity at the time of the collapse as parents anxiously sought their children amidst the chaos.
The Commissioner of Police for Plateau State, Emmanuel Adesina, reported that 132 rescued individuals were receiving medical care while search and rescue efforts continued for any remaining trapped students.
The tragic incident has prompted an outpouring of grief and support from the Plateau state government, with Governor Caleb Mutfwang declaring three days of mourning from July 13th to 15th.
