In a heartbreaking incident, the body of 18-year-old Reza Saloojee, the head boy of Greenside High School, was recovered from the Vaal Dam. He had gone missing during a family outing on Sunday while fishing with relatives.

According to his father, Bilal Saloojee, Reza ran into the water to retrieve a tackle box that had been blown away by a gust of wind. Unfortunately, the strong current quickly took him away from the shore.

Bilal, who was at the scene during the search, described his son as a wonderful, caring person. “He was just a loving child. He was the joy of the world,” he said, proudly noting Reza’s academic and athletic achievements.

The search for Reza began shortly after he was reported missing, with divers from various police teams searching the dam. Bilal expressed his appreciation for the local authorities who kept the family updated throughout the rescue efforts.

Reza was found around 5 PM, roughly 100 meters from where he last entered the water. His family is devastated and mourns the loss of a bright young man who had so much ahead of him.
