Tragic Incident at Lonavala Waterfall Claims Lives of Five Picnickers
Five individuals, including a woman, are feared to have drowned in a waterfall located near the Bhushi Dam in Pune‘s Lonavala area on June 30, 2024.
Police, along with Navy divers and other rescue teams, have resumed the search to locate two missing children, together with three other family members, who were swept away at the waterfall close to the Bhushi Dam in Lonavala.
After the unforeseen tragic incident occurred on June 30, the rescue teams managed to recover the bodies of a 36-year-old woman and two minor girls, with the search ongoing for the remaining two missing children – Adnan Sabhahat Ansari (4) and Mariya Aqil Ansari (9), as reported by the police.
The ongoing search operation for the two missing children was initiated on Monday morning, featuring the rescue teams of Vanyajeev Rakshak Maval, Shiv Durg Trekkers Organisation, and Navy divers, according to a Lonavala police station official.
Tragically, a group was captured being swept away by the strong current of water caused by heavy rainfall in the area in a heart-wrenching video recording of the incident.
The search team managed to recover the bodies of Shahista Liaqat Ansari (36), Amima Adil Ansari (13), and Umera Adil Ansari (8) from the reservoir downstream on Sunday.
According to police reports, a family consisting of 16-17 members from Sayyad Nagar in Pune’s Hadapsar area had chartered a private bus to visit the picturesque location near Lonavala for a picnic on the rainy Sunday.
