Tragic Incidents at Notting Hill Carnival Result in Two Deaths
Two individuals have tragically lost their lives following separate violent incidents during the Notting Hill Carnival over the recent bank holiday weekend. Cher Maximen, aged 32, was fatally stabbed while attempting to protect another person from being attacked, and Mussie Imnetu, a 41-year-old chef, succumbed to catastrophic injuries sustained in an unrelated occurrence.
Cher Maximen was present at the Carnival with her three-year-old daughter when the incident occurred on Golborne Road on Sunday, August 25. Despite receiving immediate emergency treatment, she was pronounced dead the following Saturday morning after being transported to St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington.
Police have reported that Shakiel Thibou, aged 20, has been arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection with Ms. Maximen’s stabbing. He appeared in Westminster Magistrates’ Court and is due to be remanded in custody until his next court appearance at the Old Bailey on September 25.
In a separate incident, Mussie Imnetu, who worked as a head chef at The Brasserie in Dubai and had a distinguished culinary career working under notable chefs like Gordon Ramsay, was discovered unconscious in Queensway with severe head injuries. He was taken to a hospital but unfortunately passed away on Friday.
The authorities have charged Omar Wilson, aged 31, with grievous bodily harm with intent in relation to Mr. Imnetu’s case, and he is set to appear at Southwark Crown Court on September 27. The police emphasize the need for witnesses to assist in their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mr. Imnetu’s last known movements and the events leading to the attack.
Both incidents have been met with widespread condemnation from community leaders and officials, including Mayor Sadiq Khan, who described the violence as a betrayal of the values the Notting Hill Carnival stands for. The carnival organizers have expressed their shock and extended condolences to the families affected by these tragic events.
