Trey Lance finally made his debut for the Dallas Cowboys, but it wasn’t quite the standout performance fans might have hoped for. After being traded to the Cowboys before the 2023 season, he hadn’t seen any action until this past Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams.

In the game, Lance completed 25 of 41 passes for a total of 188 yards. Unfortunately, he couldn’t get the ball into the end zone. He did manage to contribute on the ground, carrying the ball six times for 44 yards, showcasing his running ability.

While it wasn’t the worst start, it’s clear that Lance has some areas to improve on before he can take the role of backup quarterback behind Dak Prescott. After the game, fans had mixed feelings about what they saw from him.

Some saw promise in his mobility, with one fan tweeting about a particular scramble that was exciting to watch. Analysts noted that although he showed good command and tempo during some drives, he also missed key opportunities, including a wide-open throw to Princeton Fant that could have led to a touchdown.

Lance’s drives had moments of potential, but they were often hindered by dropped passes. At one point, Brandon Aubrey came through with a field goal, giving the Cowboys a slim lead.

Despite some promising throws, analysts commented on Lance’s need to dial down his throws, suggesting that he was missing the accuracy that could make his plays more successful. Fans and experts alike recognize that while Lance has potential, there is still quite a bit of work ahead for him.
