Tribute to Black Business Pioneer Dr Sam Motsuenyane

President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed his condolences following the passing of esteemed black business pioneer, Dr Sam Motsuenyane, at the age of 97.

Dr. Motsuenyane, a founding member of the National African Federated Chamber of Commerce (NAFCOC), was known for his significant contributions to the empowerment of black entrepreneurship in South Africa.

His legacy includes the establishment of African Bank, the country’s first black-owned bank, during the challenging apartheid era.

President Ramaphosa acknowledged Dr. Motsuenyane’s enduring vision and dedication to self-reliance and economic development.

Through his leadership, Dr. Motsuenyane paved the way for the formation of NAFCOC, a pivotal organization promoting black business interests.

One of his notable roles was serving as South Africa’s inaugural ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where he represented the nation with distinction.

Thabo Dloti, the current chairperson of African Bank, praised Dr. Motsuenyane’s foresight in founding the bank, attributing its success to his unwavering belief in seizing opportunities amid adversity.

President Ramaphosa highlighted Dr. Motsuenyane’s essential contributions to the economic liberation of black South Africans and his unwavering dedication to fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and self-sufficiency.
