The Immigration and Refugee Board in Calgary has made a pivotal decision regarding the deportation of Jaskirat Singh Sidhu, the truck driver involved in the tragic incident with the Humboldt Broncos bus in 2018.
Toby Boulet, father of victim Logan Boulet, expressed gratitude for the ruling, emphasizing the family’s firm belief in Sidhu’s deportation from Canada.
Ryan Straschnitzki, a survivor of the Humboldt Broncos crash, shared his lack of negative emotions towards Sidhu, highlighting a perspective of hope and humanity.
The fatal accident occurred when a transport truck collided with the Humboldt Broncos’ team bus on their way to a game against the Nipawin Hawks, resulting in multiple casualties.
Jaskirat Singh Sidhu, who pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death and bodily harm, was the driver of the truck at the time of the collision.
The Canada Border Services Agency recommended deportation for Sidhu, and the recent decision brings the process closer for the permanent resident.
Sidhu’s lawyer, Michael Greene, did not contest the ruling but noted that further assessments and deferrals could delay immediate deportation.
The deportation order follows a trial, sentencing, and subsequent appeals that have extended over time since the tragic incident involving the Humboldt Broncos.
