Manchester United faced off against rival Manchester City in the FA Community Shield, but the match ended in disappointment as United lost in a penalty shootout.

This clash at Wembley was another chapter in the ongoing Manchester derby rivalry, following United’s earlier win in the FA Cup final last season.

Despite the loss, there were standout performances from the Reds that provided some hope as the new season approaches. A fan poll was conducted to find out who the Man of the Match was.

Winning that honor was none other than Alejandro Garnacho, who earned 41 percent of the votes. Garnacho, who came on just before the hour mark, scored the game’s opening goal and played a key role in the match.

Just before his goal, he made a great pass that set up Marcus Rashford. Unfortunately, Rashford hit the post with his shot. If not for Bernardo Silva‘s late equalizer, Garnacho would have been celebrating a more significant victory.

During the penalty shootout, Garnacho confidently scored his spot-kick, but ultimately, Manchester City claimed the trophy.

Other players received recognition as well. Amad and club captain Bruno Fernandes got 18 and 19 percent of the votes, respectively, for their impactful performances.

Amad made several threatening runs on the right flank, while Bruno Fernandes consistently posed a danger to the City defense. There was a moment when Bruno scored, but it was ruled offside.

Casemiro also garnered support from fans, receiving 10 percent of the votes for his solid play in midfield, both defensively and offensively.

Overall, the match showcased some promising talents for United, even if they didn’t lift the trophy this time around.
