Veteran Actor Smriti Biswas Passes Away at 100 in Nashik
Renowned veteran actor Smriti Biswas, known for her significant contributions to Bengali, Hindi, and Marathi cinema, passed away peacefully at the age of 100 in her residence in Nashik, Maharashtra. The seasoned actor succumbed to age-related ailments on the evening of July 3.
Biswas, who embarked on her acting journey as a child artist, graced the silver screen in numerous acclaimed films directed by stalwarts such as Guru Dutt, V Shantaram, Mrinal Sen, Bimal Roy, BR Chopra, and Raj Kapoor. Her versatile talent shone through as she shared the screen with iconic actors like Dev Anand, Kishore Kumar, and Balraj Sahni during her illustrious career.
The late actor made her cinematic debut in the realm of Bengali cinema with the film ‘Sandhya’ in 1930, leaving an indelible mark with her performances in movies such as ‘Nek Dil,’ ‘Aparajita,’ ‘Hamsafar,’ ‘Hamdard,’ ‘Chitgaon,’ and ‘Baap Re Baap,’ among others. Her final on-screen appearance was in the 1960 feature ‘Model Girl,’ after which she bid adieu to the glittering world of cinema.
After tying the knot with filmmaker SD Narang, Biswas bid adieu to the limelight and focused on her family life. Following the demise of her husband in 1986, she relocated to Nashik, where she resided until her passing. The actor is survived by her two sons, Satyajeet and Rajeev, carrying forward her legacy and memory.
