Veteran BJP Leader V Srinivas Prasad Passes Away in Bengaluru
Former Union minister and BJP leader V Srinivas Prasad has passed away in Bengaluru at the age of 77. Prasad, a prominent Dalit leader in Mysuru, made the switch from Congress to BJP in 2018 following differences with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The duo recently met in Mysuru to discuss the state’s political landscape.
Prasad’s support for the Congress in the recent Lok Sabha elections is considered vital, especially in the SC-reserved Chamarajanagar constituency, which he represented. On April 2, Prasad’s family and supporters transitioned to the Congress camp.
The late MP announced his retirement from politics on March 17, marking five decades in the political arena. Over his career, Prasad contested 14 elections, emerging victorious in eight. He served as a Union minister from 1999 to 2004 under the Loka Jana Shakthi party and also held the position of Karnataka‘s revenue minister.
Survived by his wife Bhagyalakshmi and three daughters – Prathima, Poornima, and Poonam, Prasad’s son-in-law, Devaraj, is an officer in the Indian Revenue Service based in Karnataka. Siddaramaiah, the Chief Minister of Karnataka, expressed his condolences, highlighting Prasad’s significant contributions to politics and progressive ideologies.
The sudden demise of V Srinivas Prasad marks the end of an era in Karnataka politics, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and service to the people.
