Vikram Shines in Thangalaan
The new film Thangalaan is making waves in the entertainment world, and it features the talented Vikram in the lead role. Directed by Pa. Ranjith, this film takes us back to the 1850s in a village called Veppur, where a group of tribal people struggle against a greedy landlord.
In one standout scene, Vikram’s character, Thangalaan, rides in on horseback, looking sharp in a shirt and trousers, ready to confront the landlord. This moment reflects the film’s deeper themes about identity and resistance against oppression.
Thangalaan and his buddies answer the call from a British general named Clement, hoping to dig for gold in the Kolar Gold Fields. The plot thickens as they face off against a sorceress named Aarathi, portrayed by Malavika Mohanan, who is determined to protect her land’s treasures.
The film is packed with strong performances, especially by Vikram, who brings depth to his character, along with the committed performances from Parvathy and Daniel Caltagirone. Malavika shines in her role, showcasing her acting skills in what may be her best performance yet.
Despite its ambitious storyline, Thangalaan has its share of issues. Some viewers may find the pacing slow, especially in the first half. The film’s use of sync sound has also been criticized for making dialogue hard to understand, which could distract from the story.
Ranjith blends elements of fantasy and realism in this film, but some critics feel that it resembles other films too closely. Even so, it’s clear that Ranjith has a passion for storytelling that shines through Thangalaan.
While the film might not be perfect, Vikram’s performance and the film’s richly detailed visuals make it a notable addition to the cinematic scene this year.
