WAFL Eagles Notch Second Victory in Thrilling Contest Against Claremont
Waalitj Marawar (West Coast Eagles) secured their second WAFL victory in a nail-biting clash against Claremont at Mineral Resources Park. The Eagles displayed tenacity, holding off Claremont to claim a 13.10 (88) to 9.13 (67) win in a thrilling contest.
Matt Flynn, making his league debut, provided an influential presence for the Eagles. Acting captain Trey Ruscoe set the tone early with a goal, while Claremont fought back with goals from Alec Waterman and Bailey Rogers.
Eagles then went on a scoring spree with five unanswered goals, taking a commanding 22-point lead into quarter time. Ethan Sambo starred in the second term with back-to-back goals, showcasing his talent with a clever soccer goal and a spectacular marking effort.
Ruscoe added to the scoreboard with a crafty soccer goal, part of the Eagles’ eight straight goals in the first half. Claremont struggled to find the goals in the second quarter, unable to match the Eagles’ dominance.
Heading into the third quarter, Claremont mounted a comeback with five unanswered goals, closing the gap to just eight points. The stage was set for a thrilling final quarter, with the Eagles aiming to maintain their lead.
The fourth quarter saw the Eagles and Tigers battle fiercely, with key goals from Lucassen, Rawlinson, and Brockman securing the victory for the West Coast side. Zane Trew stood out with 36 disposals, while Gaff, Edwards, and Yeo also impressed for the Eagles.
