WandaVision Originally Planned as a Ten-Episode Series
A recent update reveals that the popular Disney+ series «WandaVision» was originally intended to include ten episodes. This development has reignited speculation about potential cameos from other Marvel characters in previously unaired content.
During a recent interview, Jac Schaeffer, the creator and showrunner of «WandaVision,» stated, «WandaVision was originally ten [episodes], then, for logistical, budget, and creative reasons, we combined two episodes.» Schaeffer did not provide further details about the content of the deleted episode or the restructured story arc.
In 2021, the show’s director, Matt Shakman, also discussed the frequent changes during production. «Things were constantly changing and getting rebroken,» he said to reporters. «The story was changing, especially a lot of the real-world stuff and the finale. There was a lot of experimentation going on and sort of trying different things out. We also at one point had 10 episodes planned, and we ended up collapsing a couple to make the rhythm feel a little bit better.»
Some of the deleted materials have emerged, including an official deleted scene featuring an alternate ending for the character Ralph Bohner. This aligns with Schaeffer’s aspirations for future Marvel projects, noting that «WandaVision» served as a foundation for subsequent series like «Agatha All Along.» Schaeffer confirmed her commitment to «Agatha All Along» by designing the show to have a similar depth and range as its predecessor.
WandaVision became an acclaimed entry within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), known for its inventive format that merged classic sitcom styles with the superhero genre. The series’ unique narrative explored the backgrounds of several characters, including Agatha Harkness, who became a central figure with her own following series. Further expanding the MCU, a «Vision» series has been announced, with developments hinting at the return of Ultron.
The «WandaVision» home video release in 2023 included behind-the-scenes content, offering fans additional insight into its production. Schaeffer emphasized the importance of exploring Agatha Harkness’s storyline, asserting that «Agatha is not a character who’s going to stand in anyone’s shadow. This is emphatically an Agatha Harkness show,» she told news outlets, indicating the character’s continuing significance.
The series «WandaVision» and «Agatha All Along» remain available for streaming on Disney+.
