The Washington Commanders made a strategic move in the 2024 NFL Draft by selecting Luke McCaffrey from Rice University with the 100th overall pick, adding a fresh talent to their roster.

Moving from his roots at Nebraska to Rice, McCaffrey excelled in the 2022 season, earning First Team All-American honors in the American Athletic Conference with impressive stats in receptions, yards, and touchdowns.

Described as a ‘big slot target’ with a family history steeped in NFL success – his father, Ed McCaffrey, and brother, Christian McCaffrey – Luke brings reliable catching skills, focus, and toughness to the receiving corps.

As the most dominant receiver in the AAC last year, McCaffrey’s short time at Rice left a lasting impact, ranking among the top in school history for touchdowns and yards.

A former quarterback turned wide receiver, McCaffrey showcased his speed with a 4.46 40-yard dash at the combine, using his quick acceleration to outpace defenders in the slot position and make crucial catches.

Pairing up with established talents like McLaurin and Dotson, McCaffrey is poised to provide rookie quarterback Daniels with a reliable set of targets in the upcoming season.
