Wayne Rooney Draws Inspiration From Cesc Fabregas To Transform Playing Style At Manchester United

Former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney, in a recent interview with the BBC, disclosed a surprising source of inspiration during his transition from a striker to a creative midfielder in his later playing years at Manchester United.

Rooney revealed that he turned to watching videos of top playmakers in the Premier League, including former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas, to adapt to his new role on the pitch.

Speaking to Gary Lineker on the BBC show, Rooney mentioned Fabregas when discussing the best finishes he played with in his career, highlighting the impact of players like Robin van Persie on his game.

Lineker then brought up Rooney’s shift to a deeper role and his partnership with van Persie at Manchester United, asking if Rooney had studied videos of Fabregas to learn how to excel in the new position.

Rooney confirmed that he indeed watched clips of Fabregas to understand the intricacies of the playmaking role, citing the relationship between Fabregas and van Persie as a template for his own adaptation on the field.

Following his time at Manchester United, Rooney went on to play for DC United in the MLS before retiring and transitioning into management with Derby County, while Fabregas moved to Monaco and eventually retired with Como, taking on a caretaker manager role at the Italian club on their journey to Serie A promotion.
