Weather Update: A Fresh and Varied Week Ahead for the UK
The start of Sunday brings with it remnants of rain and an overcast sky for certain regions; however, the majority of the country will transition to dry and sunny conditions as the day progresses. Sunshine will dominate throughout the afternoon, although it may become somewhat obscured by high clouds that drift in from the Atlantic Ocean.
While Sunday is expected to be less wet than Saturday, some light rain may still touch parts of the west, particularly affecting areas around Scotland. Rain is also forecasted for parts of the UK, making it advisable for residents to stay prepared for variable weather. Overall, it promises to be a cooler day, with temperatures peaking at around 20°C in the southeast, while varying between 12°C in Stornoway and 17°C in Bristol.
As the evening approaches, scattered rain and drizzle will make their way east across many northern and western sections of the UK. The heaviest downpours are anticipated in parts of Scotland, with the rain expected to be quite intense at times. Meanwhile, the remainder of the country will experience a dry spell but will likely see an increase in cloud cover and a breezy atmosphere in the southern and western regions. Most areas are forecasted to enjoy a mild evening.
The new week will kick off with cloudy skies dominating the scenery for a large part of the UK. Early on Monday, some patchy rain is predicted in eastern areas; however, this is expected to dissipate as the day unfolds. Following this, brighter skies are likely to emerge for most of England, creating a marked contrast to the overcast conditions seen earlier.
Nonetheless, the far north and some parts of Scotland should prepare for some rain that will drift eastward, and there is potential for these conditions to develop into bursts of heavy showers, including the possibility of isolated thunderstorms affecting the far north of England and central to southern Scotland. Overall temperatures will hover around average, fluctuating between 14°C to 18°C across different regions.
On Tuesday, lingering clouds and rain in the east are expected to clear out, although it may take longer to dissipate in southern areas where it could become showery throughout the day. For other regions, the day will begin with dry weather characterized by some sun; however, clouds will build up later and light showers may pop up in eastern areas.
Central and eastern England will experience showers during the day, while the rest of the country retains its dry status along with plenty of sunshine. By evening, we anticipate the arrival of clouds and rain over western and northwestern regions, leading to breezy conditions. Most areas will experience milder winds and seasonal temperatures, with the southeast enjoying warmer conditions.
Moving into Wednesday, heavy rainfall is predicted to sweep steadily from the north towards the east, clearing all areas except for the Northern Isles by evening. In southern regions, rain is expected to be lighter and more sporadic, gradually advancing southeast yet possibly not reaching the southeastern part of England. Once the rain subsides, clearer skies paired with showers will follow in many northwestern areas, accompanied by breezier conditions and near-normal temperatures.
Thursday may see rain linger in southeastern England well into the afternoon. The rest of the UK can expect a blend of sunny intervals and showers, with the northwest likely to witness the most frequent and potentially heavy showers, which may even turn thundery at times. Wind conditions will vary, with stronger gusts in the northwest and lighter breezes in the southeast. Most locations are expected to observe temperatures around average, although the cooler conditions in the breezy northwest may lead to a chillier feel overall.
