Welsh Comedian Rhod Gilbert Returns To Tv On The Great Celebrity Bake Off For Stand Up To Cancer

Welsh comedian Rhod Gilbert recently marked his TV comeback, post his battle with cancer, by appearing on The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer. Returning to the limelight after facing a health scare, Gilbert expressed gratitude for the opportunity, deeming it ‘quite emotional’ and acknowledging his fortunate survival.

Competing in the iconic Bake Off tent, Rhod was pitted against familiar faces such as soap star Danny Dyer, comedian Leigh Francis, and presenter Yinka Bokinni, striving to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith. The Carmarthenshire-born comedian’s resilience and talent shone through during the competition.

In the year 2022, Rhod Gilbert encountered a little-known form of head and neck cancer, steering him towards rigorous treatment. However, his unwavering determination paid off as he received the much-awaited all-clear signal, signifying a victorious conquest over the disease.

Reflecting on his experience on The Great Celebrity Bake Off, Rhod shared insight into his journey, stating, ‘For me, it is quite emotional just to be here because the fact is I am lucky to be here at all. I realized when I got cancer that I had been plodding along through my life thinking ‘other people get cancer’.’

Continuing his reflections, Rhod emphasized the prevalence of cancer in society, emphasizing, ‘One in two of us is going to get some form of cancer in our lifetimes, that is pretty shocking and frightening. Things like this raise money for the research that goes into that treatment, and I am living proof, I guess, I am literally living proof.’
