Wigwe University Set to Launch Operational Activities in August 2024

Wigwe University, a new educational institution founded by the late Herbert Wigwe, former CEO of Access Bank, is gearing up to kick off its operational activities come August 2024. Situated in Isiokpo within the Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, the university will offer a variety of programs through its four major colleges – the College of Management and Social Sciences, the College of Art, the College of Science and Computing, and the College of Engineering.

Appointed in early January 2024 as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Wigwe University is Prof. Miles Davis, who holds a Doctorate in Human and Organisational Sciences from The George Washington University in the USA. The university’s Board of Trustees boasts distinguished individuals such as Prof. Fabian Ajogwu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and the Founding Partner of Kenna Partners, Dr. Ajoritsedere Awosika, and Mrs. Mosunmola Belo-Olusoga, among others.

The programs at Wigwe University are designed to meet international standards, with collaborations with key partners globally. The university emphasizes a holistic educational approach that includes world-leading curricula, joint research initiatives, international exchanges, and internship programs. This vision aims to shape Africa’s educational landscape, fostering well-rounded leaders ready to make a global impact.

Notably, the fees at Wigwe University vary across its colleges, with the College of Arts having the most affordable tuition at N9,600,00 for the program. On the other hand, students enrolled in the College of Engineering, College of Management and Social Sciences, and College of Science and Computing are required to pay a total fee of ₦11,998,800 each. These fees cover various educational expenses such as tuition, books, laboratory supplies, personal protective equipment, e-learning resources, and health insurance.

Herbert Wigwe, the late founder of Wigwe University, tragically passed away in a helicopter crash along with his wife and son in California on February 9, 2024. His vision and legacy live on through the establishment of this educational institution, aimed at empowering the youth and fostering future leaders. On the university’s website, Wigwe expressed his aspirations, stating, ‘I cannot change the world overnight. But if I can empower even one youth today, tomorrow, they could join me in empowering others. With time, we could change the world.’
