Will Pucovski Announces Retirement from Cricket at Age 26
Australian cricketer Will Pucovski has officially announced his retirement from the sport at the young age of 26. This decision comes after a long struggle with concussion-related issues, leading medical professionals to recommend his withdrawal from cricket.
Pucovski, who has played only one Test match for Australia, made his debut against India in Sydney in 2021. He scored 72 runs in that match, showcasing his potential as a rising star in Australian cricket.
Despite a promising beginning, Pucovski has faced significant challenges in his career due to injuries sustained from bouncer deliveries. Reports indicate that he has suffered 13 head injuries, which have taken a toll on his ability to play at a high level.
In March of this year, he was injured for the twelfth time when a bouncer from Tasmania‘s Riley Meredith struck his head. This unfortunate incident forced him to miss the remainder of the season and led to the cancellation of his contract to play county cricket in Lancashire.
Throughout his first-class career, Pucovski has achieved a remarkable batting average, accumulating over 2,350 runs in 36 matches, with a highest score of an unbeaten 255. He has also recorded seven centuries and nine half-centuries. However, his one appearance for the Australian national team remains a highlight of his career.
