Northeast Usa Snowstorm 2024

The northeastern United States is experiencing early winter weather as a significant snowstorm blankets regions north and west of New York City. Prompted by the snowfall, the National Weather Service has issued various advisories, urging caution for drivers during Friday morning commutes.

Video footage obtained by Eyewitness News captures scenes in Franklin, Sussex County, New Jersey, where roads were covered in snow by midnight, and snowplows were actively engaged in clearing the accumulation.

In Orange County, New York, areas such as Goshen experienced gentle snowfall, resulting in a substantial ground covering. More severe conditions were reported in Blooming Grove where a police vehicle overturned on Route 208 at Horton Road due to treacherous road conditions. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.

Educational institutions across the Hudson Valley and New Jersey have responded to the weather, reporting closures and delays. Specific details on these interruptions are available through local communication channels.

The storm’s impact stretches across a significant portion of New York State, with counties including Tompkins, Madison, and Ulster under a winter storm warning. In these higher-elevation areas, snowfall could reach accumulations between 12 to 16 inches. The warning in Greene and Ulster counties extends until early Saturday morning.

In contrast, the Southern Tier and areas just north of New York City remain under winter weather advisories. These advisories are expected to conclude by Friday afternoon, although places near New York City may see them lifted by mid-morning.

Western sections of the state, including Rochester and Buffalo, avoided snowfall as temperatures remained in the upper 30s, leading to overnight rainfall rather than snow accumulation.

The weather service warns that although some regions will see respite from the snow, ongoing storm warnings and advisories should be heeded by residents for safety and transportation planning.
