Wisconsin Issues Wind and Winter Weather Advisories Amidst Upcoming WIAA Football Championship
The National Weather Service issued advisories for parts of Wisconsin as residents prepare for inclement weather on Thursday, November 21, 2023. A Wind Advisory has been declared, effective from 9 AM to 6 PM, impacting south-central and southeast regions of Wisconsin.
According to the advisory, strong northwest winds are expected to reach speeds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts peaking at 45 mph. This has the potential to displace unsecured objects and, along with falling snow, significantly reduce visibility. Residents are advised that tree limbs might be downed, leading to possible power outages.
Simultaneously, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 6 AM to noon, focused on Columbia, Dane, Green Lake, and Rock Counties. The advisory warns of snowfall that could accumulate up to two inches, combined with gusty winds reaching 45 mph. These conditions are likely to result in slick and hazardous roads, particularly affecting bridges and overpasses, and may complicate the Thursday morning commute.
Residents are urged to prepare for challenging travel conditions by slowing down and exercising caution while driving. Those venturing outside are advised to watch for ice on stairs, sidewalks, and driveways, as these surfaces could become slippery.
In other news, the 2024 WIAA State Football Championship games are planned for November 21 and 22 in Madison at Camp Randall Stadium. The games will be broadcast on WKOW’s Catchy Comedy channel 27.2 and can also be viewed via live stream. Events start on Thursday with Division 7 at 10 AM, followed by other games throughout the day and continuing into Friday. Spectators and participants are advised that game times are subject to changes due to the weather conditions.
