Women’s Empowerment Takes Center Stage at Travelers Championship Women’s Day Event

A special Women’s Day celebration event at the Travelers Championship sold out on Thursday. The first day of play at the Travelers Championship had a focus on women’s empowerment on Thursday.

The day kicked off with a Women’s Day breakfast featuring influential speakers Tess Sinatro and Carly Shaprio, who discussed the power of social media platforms to advance careers. The keynote speaker was CBS News broadcaster and experiences journalist Lesley Stahl, who received a standing ovation for her insights on navigating her concerns for the future and achieving work-life balance. Doors at the TPC River Highlands opened at 8 a.m. The program itself started at 9 a.m.

Anna Economon, a golfer from the University of Houston, shared her enthusiasm, “To see the PGA partner with all these women to help women get involved and excited about the sport is awesome and I just want to see it keep growing.” Tickets included general admission and parking to the tournament’s first round of competition. The event aims to empower women, acknowledging significant progress while emphasizing ongoing challenges.

“For many years we’ve had a number of great corporate sponsors and local sponsors as well as National for this Women’s Day event and that’s really important because corporations really know the value of having more women getting involved in this kind of activity,” said Joan Woodward, President of the Travelers Institution. In America, only 22% of golfers are women, a statistic that Travelers aims to change. Encouraging greater female involvement in golf is a priority to ensure representation both on and off the green.
