Women Speak Out at Democratic Convention
Three women—Amanda Zurawski, Kaitlyn Joshua, and Hadley Duvall—took the stage on the opening night of the Democratic National Convention to share their powerful stories about abortion and pregnancy struggles.
These women have become important voices in the Democratic Party, particularly in support of Vice President Kamala Harris. Zurawski, who gained attention after a personal tragedy, was joined by her husband Josh during her speech.
Zurawski, who is from Texas, talked about her harrowing experience when her pregnancy became non-viable at 18 weeks, just after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. She emphasized how her state’s strict abortion laws delayed her care, leading to life-threatening complications.
Joshua, hailing from Louisiana, shared her experiences with miscarriage care being restricted due to tight abortion laws. She recounted how she faced numerous obstacles in getting medical help during her own difficult pregnancy.
Duvall, a resident of Kentucky, reflected on her journey as an abortion rights advocate, having faced a traumatic pregnancy at just 12 years old. She criticized the extreme restrictions in her home state that denied women even basic healthcare options.
During the convention, each woman voiced their concerns about a potential second term for Donald Trump, warning about more restrictions on abortion rights and health care for women. They urged people to vote, stressing the importance of protecting their rights.
