Wout Weghorst Ajax Signing

Ajax has officially announced the signing of striker Wout Weghorst from Burnley FC. The transfer agreement allows Weghorst to join Ajax immediately, and he has signed a contract that will extend until June 30, 2026.

Wout Weghorst, born on August 7, 1992, in Borne, began his professional career at FC Emmen, where he played from 2012 to 2014. He subsequently had stints at Heracles Almelo and AZ, before joining VfL Wolfsburg in 2018. In recent years, Weghorst was under contract with Burnley FC and had loan spells with Besiktas, Manchester United, and TSG Hoffenheim.

Weghorst made his debut for the Dutch national team in 2018 and has since played 39 matches. Technical director Alex Kroes commented on the new signing, stating, «Wout stands for an absolute top sports experience, and we find that extremely important at Ajax. He is a prolific striker who constantly makes things difficult for every opponent.»

The striker has been assigned the number 25 jersey at Ajax, a number he has not worn in his previous club career. This jersey has been worn by various well-known players across different positions at Ajax, adding to its significance.

Expressing his excitement, Weghorst remarked, «I have played here before, also with the national team. But this time, walking in felt a little different. I am super happy and incredibly proud to be joining Ajax.»
