Wrexham Police FC Hosts Charity Match for Southport Tragedy Victims
Wrexham Police FC is stepping up to help raise funds for those affected by the recent stabbing incident in Southport.
The team is set to face off against Wrexham Man V Fat in a charity football match on Friday, August 23. The event is being organized to support Alder Hey Children's Hospital, which is currently providing crucial treatment for the victims.
Sgt Dave Smith, who founded Wrexham Police FC, expressed how the tragic event has impacted everyone, saying, «What happened in Southport is truly horrific and our thoughts and prayers are with all those directly involved or affected.»
He added that like many others, they feel for the families and friends impacted by the event, especially the first responders and hospital staff who are working tirelessly in this difficult time.
Sadly, it was announced earlier that a third child has died from injuries sustained during the attack during a dance class, and currently, five children and two adults remain in critical condition at the hospital.
A 17-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident and is in custody.
Determined to make a difference, Sgt Dave emphasized the goal to raise £1,000 but hopes to exceed that amount to provide as much help as possible for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
Wrexham Police FC, made up of off-duty police officers from north Wales, has been dedicated to raising funds and awareness for various charitable causes, having previously raised over £19,000 last year alone.
