Xolo Maridueña Blue Beetle Animated Series

Xolo Maridueña, known for his role in Netflix‘s popular series «Cobra Kai,» is set to reprise his character Jaime Reyes, also known as Blue Beetle, in an upcoming animated series produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios. The announcement comes after the actor starred as the Latino superhero in the 2023 live-action film, «Blue Beetle.»

In a recent interview, Maridueña expressed his enthusiasm for continuing Jaime’s story through voice acting. «There’s only one Blue Beetle,» said Maridueña, noting that it is an honor to extend the journey of the superhero. «I just can’t wait to see where the heck he goes. It’s still so early, but I just know it’s about to be the next craziest anime,» he added.

The forthcoming series is directed by Miguel Paga and penned by Cristian Martinez, who will serve as the showrunner and writer, respectively. Industry insiders reveal that Angel Manuel Soto and Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, who directed and wrote the 2023 «Blue Beetle» film, will join the project as executive producers. John Rikard, who also held an executive producer role for the film, will return for the animated adaptation. Meanwhile, Galen Vaisman, film EP, will oversee the series for DC Studios.

«Blue Beetle,» the 2023 film, chronicles the life of Jaime Reyes, a college graduate who discovers a mysterious alien scarab that grants him superpowers. Played by Maridueña, Jaime is supported by a cast that includes Adriana Barraza, Damián Alcázar, Raoul Max Trujillo, Belissa Escobedo, Susan Sarandon, and George Lopez. Becky G provides the voice for Khaji-Da, the entity that controls the scarab.
