Yacht Sinks Off Sicily Coast
A luxury yacht called the Bayesian sank off the coast of Porticello, Sicily, in the early morning hours today. One person has sadly died, and six others are still missing, while at least 15 passengers have been rescued.
The incident occurred around 04:30 local time when the yacht was reportedly caught in severe weather conditions. Eyewitnesses described seeing debris floating in the water, including clothes and cushions, before the coastguard arrived to assist.
Among the missing is British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch. His wife, Angela Bacares, was among those rescued, according to sources.
Reports indicate that the yacht had 22 people on board, including British, American, Canadian, New Zealand, Irish, and Sri Lankan nationals. The rescue operation is currently focused on finding those who are still unaccounted for.
Onlookers described a chaotic scene, with one British mother sharing how she kept her one-year-old daughter afloat until help arrived. Both are reported to be in good condition after their rescue.
The search continues as divers work to locate the missing individuals, and authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sinking.
