YouTuber Facing Federal Charges for Reckless Stunt Involving Helicopter and Lamborghini
A YouTuber known for his wild automotive antics, Alex Choi, is now the center of a federal case following a dangerous stunt that involved a helicopter and a Lamborghini. The Department of Justice has charged Choi with causing the placement of an explosive or incendiary device on an aircraft, a serious offense that carries a possible ten-year prison sentence.
The incident occurred last July when Choi directed a video titled ‘Destroying a Lamborghini with Fireworks’ where individuals in a helicopter unleashed fireworks at a speeding Lamborghini on a desert-like terrain. The video, shot without proper filming permits, has drawn the attention of authorities. The location believed to be the El Mirage Dry Lake Bed in rural San Bernardino County, situated about 60 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles.
Choi, who boasts over a million followers on Instagram and YouTube, is renowned for his automotive shenanigans, which often push the boundaries of safety and legality in the pursuit of entertainment. In this particular video, Choi can be seen activating a ‘fire missiles’ button while the helicopter passengers target the Lamborghini with fireworks as it races across the desert landscape.
Following the federal charges, Choi was brought before a magistrate judge where he was granted release on a $50,000 bond. His arraignment is set for July 2, although no plea has been registered at this time. Choi, who has not yet responded to media inquiries, remains a polarizing figure in the online car enthusiast community.
