Zion Williamson’s Persistent Injuries Continue to Challenge Pelicans
New Orleans Pelicans‘ star player, Zion Williamson, continues to face challenges with injuries as he remains on the sidelines due to a lingering hamstring issue. Multiple sources, including ESPN, have reported that Williamson has undergone various treatments for his left hamstring without being close to a return. The injury, sustained on November 6, has placed him out of action for an extended period, potentially surpassing the initially anticipated six-week timeline.
Williamson, the former top pick in the 2019 NBA Draft out of Duke University, has been plagued by injuries throughout his professional career. His latest hamstring strain limits him to only six appearances out of New Orleans’ 16 games this season. This absence adds to a substantial list of missed games, with Williamson having sat out 210 of a possible 400 regular-season matchups since joining the Pelicans.
The recurring injuries have been a setback not only for the team but also for Williamson, who was reportedly in peak physical condition prior to this latest setback. Team officials had high hopes for his impact this season, but his ongoing health issues have compounded the challenges facing the Pelicans.
The Pelicans have struggled significantly this season, currently holding a 4-12 record, placing them second to last in the Western Conference. Their recent performance includes three consecutive losses and defeats in nine of their last ten games, further highlighting the difficulties faced by the team.
In addition to Williamson’s absence, the Pelicans are dealing with injuries to other key players. A significant offseason acquisition fractured his hand in the team’s season opener, further complicating their situation. Other team members have also been sidelined at various points, adding to the roster’s instability.
The Pelicans are set to face off against an undisclosed opponent in an NBA Cup game set for Friday night. The team remains hopeful for better fortunes but continues to battle significant hurdles as they await the return of their star forward.
