MIAMI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, FLA. (WSVN) – Miami International Airport returned to normal operations following an investigation by Miami-Dade Police regarding a suspicious item that led to the evacuation of concourses H and J. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon, prompting law enforcement to restrict access to both areas.

According to a statement from the airport’s communications director, Miami-Dade Police responded to reports of an unattended bag located in the departures area. As a precautionary measure, access was restricted both pre- and post-security, impacting several scheduled flights until the all-clear was given.

The investigation wrapped up by 5:30 p.m., with police concluding that the item did not pose a threat. However, authorities did not disclose what the suspicious item ultimately turned out to be. During the investigation, flights in the affected concourses were temporarily held, causing slight disruptions to airport operations.

Authorities were on high alert due to the incident, particularly since it occurred exactly one year after a significant security event, details of which were not disclosed. Passengers traveling through Miami International Airport were advised to check with their airlines for updates on any delays or changes to their flight schedules.

Mauricio Maldonado, a digital editor for CBS Miami, reported on the incident. Maldonado has been an active digital journalist in the South Florida area since 1997, with a career spanning several prominent regional publications.
