No Evidence of Shot Fired at Taxi Carrying Ian Hislop, Say Police
The Metropolitan Police have dismissed reports of a shot fired at a taxi carrying Ian Hislop, the editor of Private Eye, in central London. According to a police spokesperson, “urgent CCTV and forensic examinations” have indicated that the window shattering was due to a mechanical fault rather than a firearm discharge.
Mr. Hislop was reportedly traveling in a black cab in the Soho district on Tuesday morning when the incident occurred, near the office of his satirical magazine. Neither he nor the taxi driver, who brought the incident to the attention of law enforcement, sustained any injuries.
The taxi involved has been seized for additional examination. The Metropolitan Police have communicated their findings to both Mr. Hislop and the driver. A spokesperson stated, “The investigations continue but currently indicate no evidence of any gunfire.”
Ian Hislop has been at the helm of Private Eye since 1986 and is widely recognized as a team captain on the BBC‘s long-standing comedy quiz show, “Have I Got News For You.” The incident occurred close to the publication’s Soho office, but no disruption to its operations has been reported.
