Hurricane Season Forecast 2025

HOUSTON, Texas – As Texas prepares for another hurricane season, experts are warning residents to be ready. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) forecasts between 13 and 19 named storms in the Atlantic from June to November, with 6 to 10 expected to become hurricanes, and 3 to 5 likely to reach major storm status.

The NOAA report also indicates a 60% chance that this hurricane season will be more active than average. Colorado State University reflects similar predictions, stating the potential for up to 11 hurricanes.

Chief Meteorologist at KPRC 2, who received the 2022 American Meteorological Society’s award for Excellence in Science Reporting, emphasizes the need for preparedness. “Every year, it only takes one hurricane to cause significant damage,” they said.

The call for community input is also part of a new initiative. KPRC 2 will air a special Hurricane & Flood Survival Guide on June 4, encouraging residents to share their storm survival tips and questions.

The effects of hurricanes have been devastating in the past, with storms like Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Ian leaving lasting marks on the Gulf Coast. Local preparations can help mitigate impacts.

In a proactive move, Texas residents are urged to start preparing for the season. Some recommended steps include checking insurance policies, establishing an evacuation plan, and building emergency supply kits with essentials like food, water, and medicine.

Officials also advise securing homes against potential damage. Storm shutters, removed debris, and well-anchored outdoor structures can reduce the risks associated with high winds and flooding.

The upcoming hurricane season opens on June 1, and the time to act is now. Signs of an active season signal residents to stay informed, remain cautious, and prepare for the unexpected.
