Explosion Near Israeli Embassy in Copenhagen Spurs Investigation
Local media images depict damages from an explosion near a residential building located approximately 500 meters from the Israeli embassy in Denmark. This incident occurred less than a week after a series of explosions in the same vicinity. A police report from October 7, indicates an explosion was heard overnight, raising questions about a potential connection to the Israeli embassy’s earlier incident.
Trine Møller, an inspector from the Copenhagen police, commented on the situation at a press briefing, stating, “We are, of course, investigating whether there could be a link to the incident at the Israeli embassy.” She further clarified, “There is nothing to suggest this is the case,” adding that the recent explosion was likely caused by gunshots.
On the night of October 1-2, similar explosions occurred near the embassy, allegedly involving grenade attacks. These events coincide with ongoing tensions in the Middle East, leading to increased scrutiny of potential threats.
Authorities have accused two Swedish nationals, aged 16 and 19, in connection with the initial grenade-related explosions. They are suspected of transporting five grenades, two of which were reportedly launched, landing roughly 100 meters from the embassy’s premises. Following their arrest, a judge placed them in detention for 27 days. The police later announced that charges against the individuals had expanded to include terrorism-related offenses, although precise details have not been disclosed.
