Zac Robinson Oklahoma State Falcons Head Coach

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — After Mike Gundy‘s recent firing, Oklahoma State‘s search for a new head coach has begun. Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson, a former player at Oklahoma State, has emerged as a top candidate for the position.

Robinson, 39, played under Gundy from 2005 to 2009, during which he became one of the best quarterbacks in the program’s history. He has been coaching since 2019, starting as an assistant quarterbacks coach with the Los Angeles Rams and rising to passing game coordinator before his departure with Raheem Morris, who is now the Falcons’ head coach.

During a press conference on Thursday, Robinson was asked if he had been contacted by Oklahoma State regarding the coaching vacancy. He declined to comment, focusing instead on the upcoming game against the Buffalo Bills. “But just honestly, I’m focused on today and progressing this week,” he stated, as reported by Terrin Waack of the team’s website.

The Falcons have a 2-2 record heading into their game after a bye week. Last season, the team ranked sixth in total yards and 13th in points. This season, they currently sit seventh in yards but 26th in points after four games.

Robinson’s recent performance has sparked renewed optimism following the Falcons’ 34-0 victory against the Washington Commanders. His offensive strategy created an efficient flow, allowing the team to score on their first three possessions. Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. praised the changes made by Robinson, noting the timely communication and execution of plays.

Despite mixed results so far this season, the speculation around Robinson’s potential role at Oklahoma State suggests that his success with the Falcons could significantly impact his coaching career.

As the Falcons prepare for their game against the Bills, which will be televised on Monday Night Football, Robinson’s future remains uncertain, but he is certainly a name to watch in both the NFL and college coaching circles.
