Fans Disappointed As Triple J Removes Twitter Account For Hottest 100 Countdown

The annual Triple J Hottest 100 countdown is currently underway, but fans have quickly noticed a significant change to this year’s edition. In a surprising move, Triple J, along with all its official Twitter accounts, was removed by the ABC back in August of last year. This has resulted in a lack of buzz and real-time updates on the social media platform for the highly anticipated music event.

The absence of Triple J’s Twitter account has left fans disappointed, as they no longer have access to live coverage and the opportunity to engage by commenting on the countdown. Many have taken to social media to express their frustration, highlighting the lack of excitement without the familiar replies of “Shoulda been higher” on each Hottest 100 post.

One positive note from last year’s winner, singer-songwriter MAY-A, who was featured on Flume’s hit single “Say Nothing,” has made an appearance at number 94 with her solo track “Sweat You Out My System.” The countdown kicked off with English singer-songwriter Maisie Peters’ “Lost The Break-Up” at number 100 and Slowly Slowly‘s cover of Blink-182‘s “I Miss You” at number 99.

As the Hottest 100 progresses throughout the day, Australian artists such as Genesis Owusu and Chillinit have also received recognition with their songs “Stay Blessed” at 97 and “Boys Light Up” at 96, respectively. The betting favorite to take the top spot this year is Doja Cat‘s “Paint The Town Red,” a song that dominated the charts in 2023. However, Australian acts MK and Dom Dolla‘s “Rhyme Dust” as well as Troye Sivan’s “Rush” are also in contention.

Past winners of the Hottest 100 include Flume featuring MAY-A with “Say Nothing” in 2022, The Wiggles with “Elephant (Like a Version)” in 2021, and Glass Animals with “Heat Waves” in 2020, among others.
