Fatal Collision Claims Two Lives Near Thorsby

A devastating motor vehicle collision near Thorsby, Alberta, has resulted in the death of two individuals, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of September 19, 2024, on Highway 778.

Authorities report that the Thorsby RCMP came across the two-vehicle collision at approximately 1:19 a.m., one kilometre south of Thorsby. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the sole occupants of each vehicle were deceased.

The victims have been identified as a 19-year-old resident of Grande Prairie, Alberta, and a 61-year-old resident of Gabriola Island, British Columbia. Their identities are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The RCMP coordinated with Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the local fire department for assistance at the scene. The area was secured as authorities conducted their investigation into the cause of the accident. The RCMP remained at the scene for several hours, emphasizing that the exact cause of the collision is yet to be determined and remains under investigation.

The Alberta RCMP has expressed its deepest condolences to the families and friends of the deceased, acknowledging the profound loss they are experiencing.
