SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio — A deadly two-car crash on state Route 139 claimed the life of an 18-year-old man on February 18. Logan Alexander Etterling of Portsmouth was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred just before 2:45 p.m. near the intersection of Maple Benner Road, south of Rubyville. Troopers reported that Etterling’s car swerved left of center and collided with another vehicle, which was driven by a 29-year-old man from Portsmouth. That driver was transported to Grant Medical Center in Columbus, although the specifics of his injuries have not been disclosed.

“It was a tragic accident that has left the community mourning,” said a spokesperson for the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

In a separate incident, Harlan M. Barr, an 88-year-old man from Madison Heights, died in a crash on February 14 in Amherst County, Virginia. Barr was making a left turn from Dixie Airport Road when his Ford Escape SUV was struck by a Nissan Murano. A passenger in Barr’s SUV suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized, while the driver of the Nissan was also admitted for serious injuries. Authorities have stated that charges are pending as the investigation continues.

WICKENBURG, Ariz. — In another tragic event, an 18-year-old driver died following a single-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 93, which was reported early Monday morning. The Wickenburg Police Department revealed that the crash was detected by Apple’s crash detection system, which alerted authorities.

The driver, who was traveling from Nevada to the Phoenix area, was found with severe injuries upon the arrival of first responders. His name has not yet been released. Police suspect that speed, alcohol, and a tinted windshield may have contributed to the crash.

“We’re still piecing together the circumstances of the incident, but it’s important to understand how technology played a role in notifying us,” stated a Wickenburg police officer.

In Oklahoma, a devastating crash involving three Holland Hall students occurred near 91st Street and Riverside Drive. During the incident, which happened on February 18, two 17-year-olds lost their lives after their vehicle hit an embankment and overturned into a creek. Only the driver survived the crash.

Community members are mourning the loss of Mollie Buffington and Claire Esmond, as Holland Hall provides support through counselors and chaplains. Head of School J.P. Culley expressed condolences in a letter to parents and staff, highlighting the school’s commitment to supporting students and families impacted by this tragedy.

The Tulsa Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash and is examining multiple factors, including speed. “We have various methods for collecting evidence and will thoroughly analyze every detail,” Officer Danny Bean said. “This is a hard time for everyone involved.”
