Fifth Suspect Arrested in Murder of Jacksonville Rapper Julio Foolio
The fifth suspect in the murder of Jacksonville rapper Charles Jones, known professionally as Julio Foolio, has been arrested after more than six months on the run. Davion Murphy, 27, was taken into custody by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office gang unit and the U.S. Marshals Service at a Jacksonville apartment complex. He was booked into the Duval County Pre-Trial Detention Facility.
Murphy had been wanted since June 23, when five suspects allegedly traveled to Tampa to carry out a deadly shooting described as part of an ongoing gang war. The shooting occurred at the Home2Suites near the University of South Florida, where Jones was celebrating his 26th birthday. The rapper was fatally shot in the early morning hours of June 23.
Four other suspects—Rashad Murphy, 30, Isaiah Chance, 21, Alicia Andrews, 21, and Sean Gathright, 18—have already been charged with first-degree murder in the case. Chance and Andrews were identified as lookouts who followed Jones as he moved between two Tampa clubs that night. The suspected shooters were identified as Gathright, Rashad Murphy, and Davion Murphy.
Prosecutors are considering whether to seek the death penalty against any of the suspects. Rashad Murphy and Chance are documented members of rival gangs known as “ATK” and “1200,” which have been feuding with Jones’ gang, “6 Block,” for over a decade. Authorities believe this long-standing feud led to Jones’ murder.
Jones, whose music often featured violent lyrics referencing actual murders, was known for his involvement in gang-related conflicts. Surveillance video from the night of the shooting was played in court as three suspects appeared before a judge. Detectives allege that ATK and 1200 collaborated to target Jones as part of their ongoing rivalry.
Prior to the shooting, Jones had posted on Instagram about celebrating his birthday in Tampa. The case highlights the deadly consequences of gang violence in Jacksonville, which has seen dozens of murders linked to the feud between these groups.
