LOS ANGELES, CA — Hulu has announced that the sixth and final season of the Emmy-winning series “The Handmaid's Tale” will premiere on April 8, 2025. The season will kick off with the release of three episodes, followed by weekly episode drops every Tuesday until the series finale on May 27.
The series, based on Margaret Atwood’s acclaimed novel, continues to follow the journey of June Osborne, portrayed by Elisabeth Moss. In a newly released teaser trailer, Moss is heard narrating, “They believed that these garments that they put on our bodies told the world who we are. To mark us, they put us in red — the color of blood. They forgot that it’s also the color of rage. The dress became our uniform, and we became an army.” This powerful statement underscores the central themes of rebellion and resistance that have characterized the show.
In Season 6, the narrative focuses on June’s indomitable spirit as she re-engages in the battle against Gilead. The synopsis reveals that characters Luke and Moira will join the resistance, while Serena attempts reforms within Gilead. Commander Lawrence and Aunt Lydia face the consequences of their actions, and Nick confronts challenging questions about his character. The season aims to exemplify hope, courage, solidarity, and resilience in the quest for justice and freedom.
Joining Moss in the cast are Yvonne Strahovski, Bradley Whitford, Max Minghella, Ann Dowd, O.T. Fagbenle, Samira Wiley, Madeline Brewer, Amanda Brugel, Sam Jaeger, Ever Carradine, and Josh Charles. The series is produced by MGM Television, with executive producers including Bruce Miller, Warren Littlefield, Eric Tuchman, Yahlin Chang, and Moss herself.
The announcement arrives after a considerable hiatus since the show’s fifth season, which aired in 2022, marking a long wait for fans. The first season of the show was a considerable success, winning the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series, but subsequent seasons have not garnered the same accolades.
As anticipation builds for the final showdown, the teaser invites fans back to Gilead, teasing intense confrontations and the evolution of beloved characters. The red cloaks emblematic of the series have become a significant representation of women’s rights movements worldwide since their introduction in 2017.
With the conclusion of June’s story on the horizon, viewers are encouraged to revisit the previous seasons ahead of the premiere, preparing for the anticipated resurgence of intrigue and drama in the dystopian saga.
